These controllers support both Real-Time (RT) and Isochronous Real-Time (IRT) communication modes and incorporate IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) for nanosecond-level clock synchronization, essential for multi-axis coordinated motion control.
Hardware-wise, they feature rugged industrial design with EMI resistance, wide operating temperature ranges, and support for network redundancy protocols like MRP or HSR. Software integration is seamless via TIA Portal or third-party engineering tools, with full support for GSDML file import, automatic topology recognition, and online diagnostics.
Typical applications span automotive assembly lines, packaging machinery, metal processing, and smart logistics systems. Leveraging PROFINET’s high bandwidth (100 Mbps / 1 Gbps), flexible topologies (linear, star, ring), and unified engineering framework, manufacturers can significantly enhance production flexibility, reduce wiring costs, and simplify maintenance.
